Diving turned tragic off the coast of Western Australia. While spearfishing, a man in his thirties was attacked by a 4.5 meter shark this Saturday off Michaelmas Island, southeast of Perth. Brought to shore where rescuers tried to resuscitate him, the diver died from his injuries. This attack, the fourth fatal in the country, comes only two weeks after the death of a man killed by a shark in the state of Queensland, in the north of the country. This is also the second fatal attack this year in Western Australia. In May, a man died after being attacked by a great white shark off Rottnest Island, near the city of Perth. Australian scientists believe that growing numbers of sea users and rising ocean temperatures are changing sharks’ migratory patterns, which could contribute to the increase in attacks.
